27/11/2004 - Coach, referee and great friend of Samurai Judo Club Rod Lane passed away Saturday 27th November. We will all miss him greatly. Obituary

14/10/2004 - After fighting all over the country the Midland Area Combined Grading saw Archi Shrimpton gain his black belt (1st Dan) in his home area. Beating four opponents with his favourite combination of sacrifice and counter techniques as well as a strangle Shrimpton gained the final 40 points he needed for the grade.

.6-7/11/2004 - A fantastic performance from all the Samurai at the British Junior National Championships which saw us take 4 medals. Kelly Edwards looked confident on the mat and took Gold. For the second time Tom Walker and Kate Walker made great perfomance for another two silver medals for the family. Danny Williams also made a great performance taking a Bronze. On the technical side Samurai provided 4 referees Keith Merrick, Carol Leverton, Stefan Newbury and Archi Shrimpton, two senior recorders Sarah Newbury and Ben Newbury (who also fought) and all the action was overseen by our Club President and Competition Controller Malcolm Limrick. --- A fantastic effort all round.

16/10/2004 - A fantastic effort by Martin Brown at the Police Grading saw his promotion from 1st Dan to 2nd Dan! - Martin "Brown" no more!

10/10/2004 - The Bev Price Memorial Team Championships were a fantastic success seeing around 70 teams competing.

25/09/2004 - Juniors Take Over! The Cockburn Cup competition held at Samurai was handed over into the palms of junior officials. It was their turn to find out what it is like to run a Samurai event. The day was a great success. Read more about it.

12/09/2004 - At the Heart of England (NIA,) referees Archi Shrimpton(17) and Stefan Newbury(17) prooved that though they may be young they knew what they were doing! Under the watchful eyes of examiners pair gave an excellent display and took the top two marks at the assessment for the National 'C' Award. The pair who began as junior referee's demonstrated that the Junior Refereeing Scheme is indeed worthwhile and can produce referees of high standard.

11/09/2004 - A Senior Grading where Stuart Wilson comfortably beat his three opponents each with a seperate ground technique; groundhold, armlock and strangle. Wilson's perfomance at the grading impressed the examiners who awarded him 1st Kyu. At the same event but in the Dan grades section Archi Shrimpton took another 10 points towards his black belt.

22/08/2004 - The Eastern Area Senior Open was to be the stage for one of the most surprising victories seen this year. Kate Walker (aged only 15) was entered into the full senior event to gain experience in senior competiton. Walker in a skillful display of Judo dispatched all her senior opponnents, including the current British number two, to be awarded the gold medal. As a result of this win she is now ranked 7th in the country in senior Judo.

14/08/2004 - The Lakeland Open saw Kelly Edwards continue her gold medal streak with a fine performace. Good performaces also came from Robin Woodward and Danny Williams who took Bronze and 5th respectively.

08/08/2004 - At the North West Area Combined Grading senior brown belt Archi Shrimpton bagged 30 points towards his black belt, losing to a bigger player in the second fight of his line up.

07/08/2004 - Golds again for Samurai at the British Cadet Championships where Kate Walker and Kelly Edwards secured their place on the squad in style.
